How to turn your smartphone into a desktop PC?

We all wanted the convenience of a laptop and the portability of a handset. So after some research and experiment, here's what I found.

Smartphone into Desktop

Configure Your Keyboard & Mouse

1. The way that suits the most (and it's budget-friendly too)

For this to work, your phone must support OTG (USB On The Go) Technology. If your phone supports it, then connect a USB-C (or USB Micro B) to USB-A. And use any keyboard and mouse (Preferably wireless) to connect to your phone. Wait for a few seconds, then start moving your mouse. A cursor should appear.

In some phones, like Samsung, a New desktop should appear. In this case, it's the Samsung Dex.

Note: Most of the phones do support it but not all.

2. The Productive way

The above method may be cost-saving but not productive. And it requires your phone to support OTG. But this method is for everyone and very productive. As you all know, each has its own drawbacks. This method, too, comes with its own. This requires a Bluetooth keyboard. And a good Bluetooth keyboard might require you to break your piggy bank and use all of its money. And you won't find many reliable Bluetooth keyboards. But, I've found a few, in case you'd prefer to buy and use them. Before I would list them, I would like to show you how to connect your phone to your keyboard through Bluetooth.

  • Turn on Bluetooth on your mobile.
  • Find your keyboard in the list of available devices and pair it with it. It might take a few moments.
  • After you've done it, You can try moving the mouse to see if the cursor appears. Or if you use only a keyboard. Try going to your browser, and start searching something in the address bar, for example, Divyesh Views
  • That's it!
So, as I told you before, I will list few Keyboard-Mouse combos below:

Get your Device seen on the big screen

Most of you might be good enough with the Keyboard and Mouse configuration. But, to get the productivity most of your phone, you should consider connecting to monitors or TVs (Preferably Monitors).

Well, how do you connect it? There are a lot of ways and a lot of possibilities, but we'll mention here the most popular and easy ones.

1. Use a casting device to connect your phone to your computer (in case of TVs)

The most convenient solution is to buy a casting device like Chrome cast™ or a Smart TV Stick like Amazon Fire TV Sticks. These are mostly used on TVs but are certainly compatible with monitors. Since buying a Google Chrome cast™  is generally a costly affair and looks slightly overpriced, I would go with Amazon Fire TV Stick™. Plug it in and connect your device easily!

2. Connect through wires through converters

Even though this method does not flaunt the best of convenience, It is very cost-saving. Use a USB Type C (or USB Micro B) to HDMI Converter to connect to the bigger display. Fortunately, many latest monitors support direct live feed through USB Type C too*. As mentioned, it is only for monitors. For TVs, use the converter.

After you complete everything, take a look at what you've done! It's amazing! I also have a few tips and tricks to save some time as well as money:
  • * - Use a USB type C to USB type C cable for those setups. It's really cost-saving and hassle-free. Check here for a cheap and quality USB Type C Cable.
  • Use a good quality HDMI cable for the best clarity and speed.
  • Note that not all wireless keyboards are Bluetooth enabled.
  • Most latest smartphones have OTG support. Try checking OTG support through apps for your mobile or try using an old OTG cable lying there in your home.
